This seems to have a lot of potential, but it's got a ways to go as I couldn't even load this video fully much less have I been able to experience The Wilderness Downtown fully. But, like I said, a lot of potential.

Wired likes to run this type of article. Included recently were the death of the laptop (I guess the powerful desktop is coming back) and the death of the phone call (you guessed it texing it king). But they are not always right with these. While Facebook many take up more web time I remember not too long ago it was Myspace. Things will continue to change and it is not getting thinner.

I didn't have a facebook for a few years after it became popular to avoid this very thing happening to me. After getting one it has quickly become the first thing I do when I get on my computer. I think I will try to break the habit this summer, use email and maybe even "Snail mail" (gasp!) to keep in touch.

Also I think that Facebook chat (as well as texting) are greatly impacting the quality of writing in younger generations. In my time teacher assisting I saw many kids abbreviate things in ways that seem to be common in texting or IMing.

On top of that I had the opportunity to look through some literacy tests done at a school middle school in MI. The writing was atrocious. The majority of these 8th grade students were testing at the level of a 4th grader (according to the test's scoring requirements), and largely in part to the abbreviations they used. This often lead to misspellings as well. As a frequent text message user I have made it a point to use proper grammar and spelling as often as possible due to these tests. I am curious to hear your thoughts on this RR. Let me know what you think when you get a chance, I hope your summer is going well.

I'm personally on Facebook anymore in large part because "all my friends are there". And some who aren't. I have people who punched me in the face back in high school Facebook-friending me, and I've never spoken to them since they requested internet-friendship (as of this morning, I count 1040 Facebook-friends). I'm amused by their goings-on day-to-day, and even post up some irrelevant things there, myself. There's a whole different mode of socialization available on sites like Facebook, but that's not the thing.

I recently began pulling pictures from Facebook and uploading them to Picasa, instead, because they can be made private, sorted more easily, and are of better quality (the space restrictions are crummy, though). I'm more a fan of Orkut and the ability to use Add-ons than Facebook's clunky plugins (though Scrabble is my poison), and wish some work would be done with it.

The blog/note thing angers me a bit, too. I thought to start blogging more to keep up with writing, and I think that people're more open on their blogs, but they post notes and status updates, instead. And Facebook's formatting for notes is terrible.

Another thing, as to the mouse issue:
Macbooks have a builtin feature on their touchpad that makes it 'multi-purpose' by default; there's the whole 2-finger-click=double-click thing, but there's also 3-and-4-finger-clicking and swiping that have additional functions. I haven't gotten used to using them much, myself, but it's pretty cool when I remember it's there; you can clear stuff away to access your desktop with the swipe of your fingers, for example (though Windows-key+M always struck my fancy, and there doesn't seem to be a Mac equivalent, unless I've overlooked it...)

The mouse thing remains an issue for me, and I got my Macbook Pro back in October. I got a neat little Bluetooth mouse from Newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826105238
...and it's been more than adequate (albeit a bit of a battery hog - I left it on overnight once a couple of weeks ago, and it seemed to drain most of the remaining battery). This has been my first real experience with Bluetooth, however, and I gotta say, I'm loving it; I even have my old, broken laptop still hooked up to my external sound card (which isn't Mac compatible) and 5.1 speakers, and, with a little $10 Rocketfish Bluetooth adapter I bought from Best Buy, I can Bluetooth over to that laptop and use the speakers, there, as my Mac's sound source. It's pretty neat. Not to mention the Bluetooth headset I nabbed (Altec Lansing BackBeat 903) is pretty cool for it, too; although they've gone up in price significantly on Newegg since. Mine only cost $22, shipped, and now they're running over $70!:

I've been thinking of switching over to Chrome, myself. I didn't like it much on my Windows machine, but I don't remember exactly why. Maybe because it seemed a little bare-bones...which is kind of what I'm going for, now, as long as "it works good". Firefox for Mac is doing me just fine, however. Still - if Chrome has some Google functions built in (I haven't looked at it for awhile), that may make me switch over - I've been keeping my life on Google for awhile, and accessing it more and more, too, since I picked up my Droid a few weeks ago (which is an amazing, priceless little gadget!)

One of my complaints is that the newer Macbooks don't have the same analog video-out that the old ones did, so I either need to a) get a new TV, or b) spend $100.00 finagling up a set of 2-3 different adapters and converters to hook the thing up to my old one. Lame.

The mouse thing remains an issue for me, and I got my Macbook Pro back in October. I got a neat little Bluetooth mouse from Newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826105238
…and it’s been more than adequate (albeit a bit of a battery hog – I left it on overnight once a couple of weeks ago, and it seemed to drain most of the remaining battery). This has been my first real experience with Bluetooth, however, and I gotta say, I’m loving it; I even have my old, broken laptop still hooked up to my external sound card (which isn’t Mac compatible) and 5.1 speakers, and, with a little $10 Rocketfish Bluetooth adapter I bought from Best Buy, I can Bluetooth over to that laptop and use the speakers, there, as my Mac’s sound source. It’s pretty neat. Not to mention the Bluetooth headset I nabbed (Altec Lansing BackBeat 903) is pretty cool for it, too; although they’ve gone up in price significantly on Newegg since. Mine only cost $22, shipped, and now they’re running over $70!:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875978112&cm_re=backbeat-_-75-978-112-_-Product

I’ve been thinking of switching over to Chrome, myself. I didn’t like it much on my Windows machine, but I don’t remember exactly why. Maybe because it seemed a little bare-bones…which is kind of what I’m going for, now, as long as “it works good”. Firefox for Mac is doing me just fine, however.
I highly recommend the Magic Mouse. It is very popular right now so you probably can't get it at the Mac store and if you buy it online you'll have to wait, but you can get it at Best Buy and it is the same price as at Mac stores. It's so awesome!
Also, right now Google Chrome for Mac really sucks, I don't know when it's going to get better, but it seems like Firefox is the way to go (on Mac) for the moment.

I have always thought that an attack on video games was dumb. I still think that video games does not cause people to act violent in real life. Same with alcohol, I drank a lot and never hit a woman or girl friend. but if you take some one else they get a couple of drinks and they just want to start a fight. I think it just bring out what people are prone to anyway. I think the same is true with video games. It's not the games that cause violence.
I think that the wii bring back memories of the old classic games. Lately I have be play the new punch out and it is awesome. It really get you to work out. Nintendo is great and I think they always do a great job.

Rob, Thanks for the heads up on these tools. I wasn't aware of Dropbox, but as someone who uses both a Mac and a PC it is a solution I've been searching for. I'm going to try some of the other tools soon, but Dropbox has already been downloaded and set up.

Thanks for the props. It also helped that we had a slew of examples to draw on, and group members who edit audio all the time. :)
