About Secondary Worlds
I am an Associate Professor of English at Grand Valley State University. As a former high school teacher who now works with pre-service teachers, I am interested in using technology in ways that support and expand the English language arts. I am a developer of Literary Worlds MOO, which is home to several rich literary simulations, including my re-creation of Brave New World and a role-playing game based on 1984. I also have experience using threaded discussions, hypertext, webquests, electronic portfolios, digital video, weblogs, and podcasts at the secondary and university levels.
Or, check out some of the sites I have created over the past few years:
- The Heart of Darkness WebQuest
- Our House on Mango Street Hypertext
- Thoughtcrime Role-Playing Game
- Lake Michigan Writing Project
- Flannery O’Connor in an Age of Terrorism
- Young Adult Literature Reviews
- The Assembly on Computers in English (NCTE)
- The Michigan Council of Teachers of English (MCTE)
If you are interested in learning more about these topics, please consider buying my book, which explores how new Web-based technologies can reinforce long-standing goals of literature instruction.
