What you’re missing is that Google+ is always there, always working, always flowing in and around you making using it almost transparent. Google+ lives in the world that you live in during day-to-day work, Googling, doing email, etc. Conversely, Facebook feels like going somewhere. It’s a bizarro parallel universe on the Internet, that makes you feel naughty for using it during work hours, and causes fatigue. Google+ is very different from Orkut or Wave, because it lives on a very special URL… http://www.google.com

It’s awful pretty and I’m finding it useful and easy to use in a way that Diaspora hasn’t been. Still don’t know if it will live or die, but at first pass, much better than Wave. The hangout feature is cool, and I like the control the Circles easily give me over what I share with whom. Time will tell.

Love your blog. I’m a recent Android convert, having switched from the (in my opinion superior but under-utilized) webOS platform. So far, my Android favorites are:
Angry Birds (free with not-too-annoying ads. I paid for this on my iPod Touch and it was worth it. It’s just a great subway/time wasting game.)
Evernote (free)
Words with Friends (free – I’m europeisbetter and would love some new partners)
GasBuddy (to find cheap gas)
Yelp (free)
NYTimes (free and gets you around the article limit)
DoggCatcher (you have to pay for it, but it’s a great podcast app and has been additionally vetted by lifehacker.com.)
Chase (free)

Blogger is the only one I have used and I am very pleased with it. One thing that I would like to know is how some people remove the Blogger navigation bar from their blog. If you have a marketing blog or a kid friendly blog and the navigation bar is included then it is too easy to accidentally come across some hideous stuff on there.

Thanks for the information on ToonDoo. Have you ever tried using the xtranormal to create cartoon movies? It seems great, but I have yet to try it. I think this process is a great way to keep interest up on graphic novels. My middle schooler has opened my eyes to a whole new world of graphic novels for her age. They are great, and I can see how something like this program will help students write like mentor texts.

I agree completely!
I had a similar situation when the audio output of my iPod mysteriously stopped working. I attempted to fix the problem myself but was thwarted by the impregnable fortress that is the outer casing. Wish that they were more DIY friendly.

I never thought I would read e-books, or even find myself blogging on a regular basis. I’m glad I had you teach me the importance of the internet. I find a ton of valuable FREE content as well as some really great and affordable programs and plug-ins for Photoshop. While I may have switched from my English major roots to running my photography business, I’m forever grateful to you for showing me the way. I remember we agreed a physical book in hand is still prefered, but the e-books I’m reading from craft and vision are incredible at $4-5 each.

P.S. I love my RSS feed, to go back to a previous post of yours.

I read the trilogy over the summer and loved them. I have several students reading them, but I always give a disclaimer for the third. I found that one much darker than the first two. Like Harry Potter, I think the characters have been through so much by the last book that it is realistic, but still pretty dark.

Thanks for the loudblog idea. I’m doing podcasting with my students in 2 weeks, and with Odeo down, I was feeling a bit lost.

Podcasting is hitting its stride. I’m not so sure it’s outdated yet. The media specialists here at school were excited to see the podcasting project coming up (which signals to me that not many people do it). Just because everyone’s becoming a slave to the man doesn’t mean it’s dead yet!

HTML5 is cool and all, but the standard is still a few years off. It’s funny that Apple has refused to support Flash on their mobile devices claiming that HTML5 is better (which it is, really). There’s not enough support yet, but the time will come.

Really I posted here so I could say this…I thought Neil Young was your favorite!! Did you just get into Arcade Fire when The Suburbs came out? Let me say Funeral is still easily their best in my opinion.

Wired likes to run this type of article. Included recently were the death of the laptop (I guess the powerful desktop is coming back) and the death of the phone call (you guessed it texing it king). But they are not always right with these. While Facebook many take up more web time I remember not too long ago it was Myspace. Things will continue to change and it is not getting thinner.

I didn’t have a facebook for a few years after it became popular to avoid this very thing happening to me. After getting one it has quickly become the first thing I do when I get on my computer. I think I will try to break the habit this summer, use email and maybe even “Snail mail” (gasp!) to keep in touch.

Also I think that Facebook chat (as well as texting) are greatly impacting the quality of writing in younger generations. In my time teacher assisting I saw many kids abbreviate things in ways that seem to be common in texting or IMing.

On top of that I had the opportunity to look through some literacy tests done at a school middle school in MI. The writing was atrocious. The majority of these 8th grade students were testing at the level of a 4th grader (according to the test’s scoring requirements), and largely in part to the abbreviations they used. This often lead to misspellings as well. As a frequent text message user I have made it a point to use proper grammar and spelling as often as possible due to these tests. I am curious to hear your thoughts on this RR. Let me know what you think when you get a chance, I hope your summer is going well.
